Academics
In Language Arts, we continued working on our creative writing projects with individual revisions. Next week, we will complete peer revisions and teacher/student conferences for the students' writings. We also started our first WordMasters challenge! Students became "experts" on one word from their lists. They are then in charge of teaching the class that word. Presentations will continue throughout next week.
In reading, students in both classes are reading one of three novels: The Cay by Theodore Taylor, Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, and Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell. As they read, students are completing a reading response journal. In addition to their response journals, they are participating in discussions and regularly monitoring comprehension. Miss O'Connor's class finished the novels this week and completed an individual project in class. Mrs. Nash's class will finish the book next week.
In social studies this week, students began a unit on exploration. We will continue this unit for the next few weeks.
In Science this week, students finished their science expo projects! They are on display in the commons and will be through next week. Our next unit will be on classification.
