Academics
In language arts, we continued our verb unit we briefly began in December before winter break. Both classes focused on learning and identifying direct objects. We then discussed verb tenses and subject-verb agreement.  Students also completed Wordly Wise 14 and took their spelling test on Friday. Wordly Wise 15 will be due next Thursday, February 26th.

In reading, Mrs. Nash's class began working on their Literature Circles final project. Students are working in groups to develop a presentation as members of a publishing company working to determine if their book, which they are imagining is in the final steps of the publishing process, should in fact be published. We will finish these projects on Monday and present them on Wednesday. Following this project, we will begin our next novel study, which is a historical fiction novel set during the Civil War called Jayhawker.  Next week, we will be completing a project based on the work they completed during this unit. Miss Laird's class continued reading Small Steps. We spent this week discussing the character development of Peg and the relationships she builds throughout her journey. We also made personal connections to Peg and put ourselves in "Peg's shoes." We will finish the book by the end of next week.

In social studies,we focused on the first battles of the Revolutionary War as well as the Declaration of Independence. We will continue with our study of the American Revolution next week. We will be wrapping up this unit at the beginning of March, and we will test over this unit on Tuesday, March 10th.

In science, we tested over cells and human body systems today! We spent the week preparing and reviewing. We played several review and activities and games to help prepare for the exam. On Monday, we will begin a short unit on health and wellness. We will discuss nutrition, sleep habits and hygiene.
