*We will be starting our Exchange City unit next week. Part of this unit allows students to complete a job application, create a resume, and then interview for their desired position. For this part of the process, we need your help! We ask parents who are available to come in to interview students for their potential jobs. We will provide interview questions and job descriptions to parents participating. Please look for a sign up genius that we will send out early next week. 

For parents interesting in going to Exchange City with us, we will send home a form that you can return.  Unfortunately, we can only take one parent per business, so we typically have a drawing with returned forms to see who will come with us. We appreciate any help in advance with these opportunities for our students! 

Academics

In language arts, we continued our verb unit by beginning a Verbs Creative Writing Assignment. This will give students an opportunity to apply their knowledge of verbs. They also have the opportunity to work with their homeroom teacher in small groups for better understanding of each part of unit. The test over this unit will be Thursday, March 12th.  Students also completed Wordly Wise 15 and took their spelling test on Friday. Due to next week's conferences, students have until Thursday, March 12th to complete Wordly Wise 16; however, we are encouraging them to get started on it early since we have many things going on the week before Spring Break.

In reading, Mrs. Nash's class finished their Literature Circles Final Project in groups and presented them to the class. We also took another Scholastic Reading Inventory test to see how students have progressed in reading this year. Mrs. Nash will be conferencing with each student about their scores to set reading goals for the remainder of the year. In Miss Laird’s class we finished Small Steps. We discussed how Peg’s journey changed and matured her, but also the traits that grew stronger because of the difficulties and challenges she experienced. Next week we will begin the week with a final discussion and then take a test over the novel.  

In social studies, we completed our Revolutionary timeline by working in stations to gather information about various events. Students should be studying their Unit 4 Terms to Know as well as their timeline foldable to review for the upcoming test, which is Tuesday, March 10th. We will spend time next week reviewing for the test.

In science, we started our unit on health and wellness. We spent this week discussing the 6 essential nutrients our body needs. We ended the week by discussing the food groups. The kids worked in groups divided by food group and determined our bodies’ needs of each food group based on the nutrients the foods in that group provides. Next week we will present our findings. We will also begin talking about the importance of sleep and healthy sleep habits. We will wrap up the unit before spring break with a discussion on hygiene and development.
