Thank you to all of you who joined us this Tuesday at Exchange City! We also want to thank all parents for their help and support throughout this entire unit. It is a valuable experience for our students and it would not be successful without your help at home.
Exchange City Field Trip
On Tuesday, April 9th, our students headed to Exchange City to run an entire city for the day. We were very impressed with the effort put forth by our fifth graders. Each student worked very hard to help make their business successful and to be a good citizen of the city. Many of our students went above and beyond their regular responsibilities by bringing or making something extra to help their business earn a little extra money! It was an exciting, though at times stressful, day for all and an experience that will not soon be forgotten!

Academics
In language arts, students began learning about adjectives. For this grammar unit, each student will compose a piece of creative writing and will incorporate many different types of adjectives in their story. Students are enthusiastic about their writing topics and have gotten a great start on their work.
Students in Mr. Ward's reading class are finished Holes by Louis Sachar and took a test over the novel. Mrs. Nash's class finished Jayhawker by Patricia Beatty and took a test as well. Both classes will begin a Book Contract on Monday of next week.
In science, students are learning about the earth's resources. This week they created a poster about a natural resource, which will be due Monday.
Students learned about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights in social studies. Next week, we will be working on a Unit project that will allow students to explore a particular part of American history between 1787-1760. Students will have the option of working in groups or individually for this project.
