Baby Jones Has Arrived! Have a Happy Spring Break!

 

 

 

Lola Estelle Jones was born early Saturday, March 16th!  She weighed 8lbs and 10oz and is healthy and doing well.  We finally came home from the hospital Monday and since then have been busy, busy, busy taking care of our precious little girl!

Middle School Transition Night

I want to invite you to our Middle School Transition Night on April 4. This will be an excellent opportunity to meet the middle school teachers, have an exposure to the middle school curriculum, listen to reflections on middle school students and to ask questions. For many students and parents, the years in middle school are some of the most amazing years in a person’s life. This evening will offer some insight into characteristics of adolescent behavior and development. The evening will begin with a brief presentation of the new 1:1 iPad initiative. We will meet in the third floor commons at 6 pm. I look forward to seeing you April 4.

Reading Reptile Lit. Fest.

Exchange City

Exchange City jobs were announced on Tuesday this week. Since then, students have begun working on their business plans. As they continue to work in their businesses, they apply for a loan, set up pay roll, develop products, plan advertising, and more!

Academics
In language arts, students wrapped up their unit on verbs by taking the end of unit test on Wednesday. Next, we will be focusing on technical writing, and students will compose an explanatory piece about something they know how to do well. For this writing piece, we will focus on the writing trait of organization. Students also finished Wordly Wise #16. Students will not receive Wordly Wise #17 until Thursday, March 28th.

This week in reading, Mrs. Jones' students continued reading Holes by Louis Sachar. Mrs. Nash's students continued reading Jayhawker by Patricia Beatty.

In social studies, students prepared for their test over the Revolutionary War and took the test on Friday. After spring break we will focus on the forming of the United States government.
 

This week in science we continued to study plants. There will be an exam over this unit on Tuesday, March 26. This is the Tuesday after we return from Spring Break, and, while the timing is far from ideal, we are encouraging students to begin preparing early so they are prepared ahead of time and can still make the most of their Spring Break. Snow days, WordMasters, Exchange City, Good Friday, and Spring Break all made scheduling this assessment challenging.
