In science this past week, students practiced making line and bar graphs. They also were busy reviewing for the test which is Monday, September 17. We will spend this week planning and conducting some experiments.
Students have completed their studies on Native Americans in social studies. They will spend some time reviewing this week for the upcoming test on Tuesday, September 25.
Both classes are approximately half way finished with their class novels. Mrs. Nash's class is on chapter 21 of Holes by Louis Sachar and Mrs. Jones's class is on chapter 11 of Shiloh. Both classes are continuing to practice the reading strategies and use post its to monitor their thinking while reading. Students turned in the title page for their first quarter book report this last week, and should now be busy reading their book report books. The book reports are due Wednesday, October 10.
Students evaluated their personal narratives this week by analyzing their success addressing the six traits of writing. Students took a close look at their ideas, organization, word choice, sentence fluency, voice, and conventions. They also completed Wordly Wise four. Students will take a sentence pre-test on Monday, September 17 which will help us identify which concepts we should focus on during this first unit of grammar. This test will only be used to guide our instruction and will not be entered for a grade. Students are currently working on Wordly Wise 5 which is due Thursday, September 20. The test over these words will be Friday, September 21.
Don't forget Picture Day is Tuesday, September 18th! Students who wish to order pictures may do so online or by returning the envelope that was sent home. If you do order online, please have your child bring the printed "picture pass" to school. You may also order later when the proofs are sent home. There will be fewer choices and a slight price increase at that time.
This Friday is Spirit Day, Feed the Need, and Family Fun Fest!
