March 20 - March 23

We have been very busy since we returned from Spring Break on Tuesday as we are preparing for Exchange City. Below are some of the highlights of the week.

• Exchange City preparations are well under way!  This week, students prepared resumes, participated in three job interviews and made laws for their city.We will have an election for two positions on Monday: D.J. and City Manager. Students will also find out which business they will work in and what job they will have either Monday or Tuesday. Thank you again to all the parents who are helping make this unit a wonderful experience for our students.
• Students received their seventeenth set of Wordly Wise words on Friday. These packets will be due Thursday, March 29 and the test  will be Friday, March 30.
• Mrs. Nash's reading class began reading Jayhawker by Patricia Beatty this week.    Mrs. Jones's reading class is currently reading Holes by Louis Sachar.
• This week in Science students started a unit on space. We will do some review and cover new information as a whole class initially, and then students will be given time and guidelines for an in-class research project related to space.
• In social studies, students reviewed for their upcoming test over Unit 4, The American Revolution. The test will be Tuesday, March 27.

Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

I want to invite you to our Middle School Transition Night on April 12th.  This will be an excellent opportunity to meet the middle school teachers, get exposed to the middle school curriculum, listen to reflections on middle school students and to ask questions.  For many students and parents, the years in middle school are some of the most amazing years in a person’s life.  This evening will offer some insight into characteristics of adolescent behavior and development.  We will meet in the third floor commons at 6 pm.  If you have time, the 6^th grade musical performance will take place in the North Wing MPR at 7 pm immediately following the transition presentation.  I look forward to seeing you April 12th.
