February 27-March 2

It is hard to believe it is already March!  The end of third quarter is right around the corner and fifth graders are staying busy.  Below are some of the highlights of the week. Be sure to check out the Upcoming Events page for a list of what is going on in March.

• In language arts, we are wrapping up our unit on verbs. Students will have a test over verbs next Wednesday, March 7th.  Students may use pages 236-239 and 242-253 in their language arts book for extra review in preparation for the test. 
• Students completed their fifteenth set of Wordly Wise words this week.  They received Wordly Wise 16 on Friday, which will be due Thursday, March 8. 
• Mrs. Nash's reading class finished Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio by Peg Kehret and took a test over the novel.  Students started a Reader's Theater activity this week and will complete it next week. We will start our next novel, Jayhawker, after spring break.  
• Mrs. Jones's reading class finished Jayhawker by Patricia Beatty and took a test over the novel. Their next novel will be Holes by Louis Sachar.
• This week in Science students have reviewed plants.  They will have a test over chapter four on Tuesday, March 6.  On the Thursday and Friday before Spring Break they will be able to do some experiments that reinforce content we’ve been studying over the past few months.
• In social studies, students continued working on a timeline of the American Revolution by focusing on the first battles of the war. Next week we will learn about the strengths and weaknesses of both the Patriots and Loyalists and learn how the war came to an end. We will have a test over Unit 4, The American Revolution, on Friday, March 23.
