September 19-23

We are officially past the halfway mark of first quarter and students are busy working on numerous projects and assignments.  The fifth grade book report is due on Friday, October 7th.  Students should finish reading their book report book by Friday, October 30th if they haven't already.  This will give them one week to write their book report.  All students have detailed directions that guide them through the assignment and help them organize their paragraphs in a logical way.  Students are always welcome to type book reports.  In language arts we have been studying complete subjects and predicates as well as simple subjects and predicates.  Mrs. Jones's class will wrap up their class novel, Shiloh, next week and have a test over the novel.  We'll also have an opportunity to watch the film version of the book which will be followed with Venn diagram activity where students can compare and contrast the book and movie.  Miss Iserman's Students will continue reading Holes by Louis Sachar and working on their reading response journals.  They are also focusing on vocabulary and characterization as they are reading the novel.  In science, students worked in groups to conduct an electromagnet experiment.  During this activity students worked on identifying manipulated, responding, and controlled variables, writing a strong hypothesis and a detailed procedure, and collecting qualitative and quantitative data.  In social studies students will have a review session on Monday and Tuesday of next week.  The social studies test over unit one will be Thursday, September 29th.  Students have a study guide to use as they prepare for this test.  All students  received their mid quarter grades earlier this week. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.  Be sure to continue to check the upcoming events page to review upcoming activities and due dates for larger assignments and tests. Have a wonderful weekend.  We hope your enjoying this beautiful fall weather.
