*Weather Note: As the temperatures continue to drop, we wanted to send a reminder that we will continue to go outside for recess if at all possible. We think it is important that students have the time outdoors for fresh air and exercise, so please help remind your students to bring appropriate winter clothes with them to school so they are able to stay warm and enjoy their time outside.

Academics
In Language Arts this week, we continued our grammar unit on nouns. We reviewed singular and plural nouns, common and proper nouns, and possessive nouns. We will continue this unit into next week and will wrap it up on December 3rd with a unit test.
In reading, Miss O'Connor's class continued reading Running Out of Time.
Students will finish the book over Thanksgiving break. We will do a short
in class project and take a comprehension exam over the book when we return. Mrs. Nash's class began reading The Watson's Go to Birmingham - 1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis. It is a historical fiction novel, and as we read we will primarily be focusing on character development and setting.
In social studies this week, we finished our study of exploration and took our chapter three test. We also began learning about the first English settlements in North America. Students learning about the mystery of the Lost Colony of Roanoke, and they worked to develop a theory about what really happened to the Roanoke colonists. Next week, we will learn about Jamestown. Following Thanksgiving break, we will begin a project about the English colonies in merica. North A

In Science this week, students continued learning about
classification. We gathered information about vertebrates and
invertebrates through non-fiction texts and applied that knowledge to make
graphic organizers and Venn Diagrams. We then learned how scientists use
dichotomous keys to classify organisms. We used a dichotomous key
ourselves to classify jelly beans! Next week, we will create our own
dichotomous key.
