Academics
In language arts, we concluded our verb unit. The students took their verb test. They also worked on final edits of their verb project. The final draft for this project will be due on Wednesday, March 25th. In addition, they were hard at work on completing Wordly Wise 16. (It's hard to believe only 4 more weeks of Wordly Wise!) After spring break we will begin our third and final round of Word Masters. We will also continue to jump into the excitement of working in our businesses at Exchange City. The kids will do job specific training and also work very closely with their businesses.
In reading, Mrs. Nash's class spent time reviewing parts of the plot. We then started viewing Pixar short films to help us work on determining the different plot elements. We will complete this plot activity the week following Spring Break, and then we will begin Jayhawker by Patricia Beatty. In Miss Laird's class, we started our new lit circle unit. The kids did a book preview and then were placed in their new lit circle groups. They will work with they groups throughout the duration of this novel. Each night a different student will be responsible for reading for a specific purpose. The roles will rotate between discussion director, illustrator, summarizer, vocab wizard, and connector. Then they will discuss their roles and their reading passage with the group.
In social studies,we had our final review session and then students took their Unit 4 test over the American Revolution. We also began our next unit about the forming of the nation by analyzing the first government that was established for America, the Articles of Confederation. The week following Spring Break, we will begin our study of the U.S. Constitution.
In science, we continued our health and wellness unit. This week we focused on the importance of sleep. We looked at several different resources including case studies, websites, and other current event article to gather information and take notes about sleep. We focused on the importance of sleep, what happens when we sleep and different sleep disorders. We will wrap up this unit when come from break.
