Academics

In language arts, we continued with our work in our Presidents Unit. This week we worked hard on drafting our papers. We spent time learning the structure of writing an introduction and conclusion. The rough draft of their papers are due on Monday, January 26th. We will work on revising and editing next week. Please refer to the Presidents Packet students have for other due dates or note the dates listed above if you have any questions regarding this work. 

We also continued with our study of Word Masters Round 2. Students may begin studying their packet of words to prepare for the Word Masters challenge on February 5th. 

In reading, Mrs. Nash's class continued with our literature circle unit. As we read, we are focusing on asking questions, summarizing, visualizing, making connections, and vocabulary. Each day students discuss their reading with their group. Miss Laird’s finished Watson’s go to Birmingham. We read and discussed the climatic ending to the story together. Then we took a look back at the entire novel and discussed the events creating a timeline of the novel. Next week we will test over the novel and watch the movie. This will give us an opportunity to compare/ contrast the novel with the film. 

In social studies, In social studies, we spent time learning about the French and Indian War, which was one of the first events that led to the start of the American Revolution. We also created timeline foldables out of construction paper, which students will use throughout this unit to keep important notes. This timeline will eventually become their study guide for Unit 4.

In science, we continued working on the muscular skeletal system. This week we finished working in small groups to learn about different important elements of the muscular skeletal system. Some of the groups include: joints, types of muscles, what can go wrong with bones and muscles, and voluntary vs involuntary muscles. They presented their information they learned with the rest of the class.
