*Students can buy a drink from Student Council for the Softball game. We will collect money in advance so they can receive a ticket for their purchase on the way up to the field.
**Students should bring a lunch with them on the last day of school if they have not previously ordered one from the cafeteria. They can also bring equipment or toys to play with at the park, such as footballs or soccer balls, but they will be required to carry these items and are responsible for keeping track of them. We ask that students do not bring Lacrosse sticks and equipment for this activity.

Academics
In language arts, we continued working on our last grammar
unit that covers pronouns, prepositions, and adverbs. The test for this unit is Monday, May 19th. Students have a study guide for this unit and can use pages 406-413 and 488-497 in the language arts book to help them prepare. As always,
students can use our LiveBinder for Grammar to help them review this
material if they need extra practice at home. The access code for the LiveBinder is grammar. We also finished Wordly Wise 20, which was our final Wordly Wise of the year.
Both reading classes
have been working on their book contracts. Miss Laird's students finished their books and journals
according to their schedules (many finished ahead of schedule), and worked
feverishly all week on their book contract projects. The third and final set of
journals are due on Monday. They will also have 2 work periods next week to
work on putting together their projects together. Mrs. Nash's class turned in their final jounrals and had several class periods of project work time. They have one remaining work period on Monday and then both classes present
projects on Wednesday, May 21st.
This week in social studies, we continued our unit on the Civil War. Students are currently working in groups to prepare a skit about a certain part of the Civil War in Reader's Theater format. Groups began sharing their skits in class on Friday and we will finish next week. We also had a fantastic presentation from Mr. Christensen, who brought in several artifacts and shared great information about what it was like for troops in the Civil War. We appreciate him taking time to come in and share such a valuable experience with the class!
This week in science we focused on the reproduction of
plants and the parts of a flower. We ended the week with a flower dissection
lab. They identified the main parts of a flower and then used their knowledge
of the parts and their functions to answer questions about the design of
flowers.
