Thank you to all the parents that supported the fifth grade Mercado. The students had a great time sharing their presentations and practicing their Spanish speaking skills.

Academics

In language arts, we continued working on our last grammar unit that covers pronouns, prepositions, and adverbs. As always, students can use our LiveBinder for Grammar to help them review this material if they need extra practice at home. We tested over Wordly Wise 19 today and they may go ahead and begin working on Wordly Wise 20. This is the last Wordly Wise lesson of the year!

Both reading classes have been working on their book contracts. Miss Laird's class should be finished with Week 2 of their book contract schedule. They should be ready to turn in journals 5-8 on Monday. Mrs. Nash’s reading class finished their book contract books. They will work on putting together their LiveBinder about their book over the course of the next week.The final project for both classes is due May 21^st.

This week in social studies, we started our unit over the Civil War. We spent time looking at the cultural and economic differences between the north and the south before the start of the war. We also did a timeline activity of events leading up to the start of the Civil War.  Thank you so much to the students who participated in the enrichment project! We had a great time sharing things we learned on Friday morning!
 

In science, we continued to look at the life of plants. We focused this week on the reproduction of plants and continued to chart the growth of our bean seeds. We discovered that regardless of the position of the seed gravity will always force the roots to grow downward. Next week we will study the parts of a flower and end by dissecting and identifying the parts of a tulip.
