Academics

In language arts, we continued our grammar unit on verbs. We will review early next week and test over this content on Wednesday, March 12th. There is extra review practice that can be found on the language arts LiveBinder. The access code is: grammar. All students have also be given a review packet and a verb reference guide to assist with studying. We also continued with Wordly Wise. Next week we will continue with Wordly Wise Lesson 16.

 In reading, Miss Laird's class began reading Holes by Louis Sachar. The students have created a journal response notebook to use throughout the novel. Many student have already read and/or watched the movie so this gives us an opportunity to critically analyze of the novel as we read. Mrs. Nash's class sharted out literature circles unit. Students are reading one of the following books: Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, The Call of the Wild by Jack London, Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, or Wizard’s Hall by Jane Yolen. Throughout this unit, students work in groups to discuss the book on a regular basis so they are able to dig deeper into the text.

This week in social studies, we completed our unit on the Revolutionary War and students took the test for this unit. I am proud of the hard work they put into studying and preparing for the test! Our next unit will be about the foundations of our government. This will tie in nicely with some of our Exchange City preparations as we learn about the importance of government in laws for our city.

In science, all students created construction paper plant and/or animal cells. They were asked to construct a cell using all major organelles and describe their jobs/ function. They were also given an enrichment opportunity for science. The students have until Spring Break to decide if they are want to accept the challenge and what topic they choose.

Exchange City- This week we began preparations for our field trip to Exchange City. We began by creating resumes, skills and interests profiles, and preparing for interviews. Thank you to all parents who are helping with the interview process. We filled all slots within just a couple of days! We will hold elections for elected positions next Thursday, but the intent to run form needs to be completed and turned in by Tuesday, March 12th. The students will know their job next Friday after elections and interviews.
