*Advent Musical Offerings begin on Monday, December 3rd. Students in third-fifth grade have an opportunity to share a musical gift during our Division Chapel. Students may play a musical instrument, sing a song, or offer any other musical talent. Students who wish to perform should sign up with Mrs. Watt.

**Mrs. Bartlett and Mrs. Jones will be working together to offer a few early morning science club sessions.  The first session is this Thursday, December 13.  The following sessions will be Thursday, January 17 and Thursday, February 7.  We will begin at 7:20 each morning.  Students are welcome to bring their breakfast with them if they would like to finish it while they work. 

*** The President "Lock-In" takes place during normal school hours. The entire day will be devoted to activities related to The United States' Presidents. This is the official kick-off for our Presidents' Unit.

Secret Santa
Students should have brought home a note about Secret Santa this past week.  We will be drawing names in each homeroom on Monday, December 10.  Students are asked to provide three small gifts for their Secret Santa; they will bring one gift per day on Tuesday, December 18, Wednesday, December 19, and Thursday, December 20.  Students are encouraged to bring homemade treats and or crafts.  All three gifts should total no more than $5 all together.

Academics

Mrs. Nash’s reading class is reading Small Steps by Peg Kehret. Students are currently on chapter fourteen of the story. Some of Mrs. Jones's students are reading Island of the Blue Dolphins and others are reading The Cay. Both groups having finished chapter 12 of their novels. Students should be finished reading their book report book and should be busy making their title page, summary page, and project.  The book report assignment is due Friday, December 14.

 

In social studies, students have started a project on Colonial America. Each student is researching a region of colonies (New England, Middle, or Southern). They can then choose how they want to "sell" their colonial region to potential settlers by making a brochure, a commercial, a PowerPoint, or a song/poem. All the work will be completed in class and students will share their advertisements on Monday, December 17 during a "Colonial Trade Fair."

In science students should be busy studying for the test which is Tuesday, December 18.  It is over chapter 2 in the textbook which covers cells, tissues, and organs.   Students will be finishing their second quarter current events this week.

This week in language arts, students mailed their business letters.  We will now be focusing on verbs.  Students are also working on Wordly Wise 11.

SHOEBOX CHRISTMAS 2012

Is now Zipping into the New Year!

It has become a tradition at St. Paul’s for classes to bring toiletries for the patrons of the Church Pantry at Christmastime. The previous Shoebox Christmas has become Zipping into the New Year and is sponsored by the entire Lower School division, Grades One through Five. Your donated items will be packed with care into ‘zip-lock’ bags, and delivered as expressions of good will. Each student is invited to bring one or more items in the grade level suggestions. Travel or small sizes are requested. We will be very grateful if you also choose to send a compliment of gallon size Ziploc bags! Here is the suggested list:

First Grade:

Brush and comb, shampoo & conditioner

Second Grade:

Toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash

Third Grade:

Body wash, bar soap, or deodorant

Fourth Grade:

Hand and/or body lotion

Fifth Grade:

Disposable razors, shaving cream and pocket size tissues

Monday, Dec.3 begin bringing items

Thursday, Dec. 20 request for items to be brought in.

Students fill gift bags with items and good wishes for a Happy New Year. Bags will be delivered to Church Pantry on the 21.

We are so very grateful for your participation and generosity. 

Lost and Found

We hope that you will take a look at the lost and found clothing on the first and second floors for items that have gone missing from your child’s closet. We have a wide array of warm outerwear for boys and girls. Although we encourage the children to pick up their jackets, sweaters, and coats, mittens, hats and gloves, we have accumulated quite a number of clothing pieces that were left behind.
