Thanksgiving Has Arrived!!!

Thanksgiving break is here, and we hope you and your family have a fabulous time enjoying great food and time with one another!  Thanks be to you and your children for making this such an enjoyable year for us.  We hope this Thanksgiving provides you with lots of time to relax and enjoy the little things.

• * The President "Lock-In" takes place during normal school hours.  The entire day will be devoted to activities related to The United States' Presidents.  This is the official kick-off for our Presidents' Unit.

Academics

Mrs. Nash’s reading class tested over the novel Shiloh and then enjoyed the movie version of the story.  Students noted the differences and similarities between the book and movie while they watched. Some of Mrs. Jones's students are busy reading Island of the Blue Dolphins and others are busy reading The Cay.  Both groups are on chapter six of their novels.  Students should be finished reading their book report books in two weeks.  This will give them one week to write their report.

Students took the social studies test Monday, November 19, and received their graded test on Tuesday.  They should be bringing it home to share with you.

Students are now studying cells in science.  They will be learning about the five main parts of an animal cell and the seven parts of a plant cell.  Students are also busy working on their second quarter current events.

In language arts students have been busy working on a top secret project that hopefully they will share with you this Thanksgiving break.  When students return we'll be working on writing business letters.  More information and guidelines will be provided about this upcoming writing project.  They've also been very busy learning the definitions of their WordMaster words.  Under "Helpful Links" you will notice several quizlet links that students can use to learn the definitions of the words.  Since this is an analogy test, learning the definitions is only the first part of studying.  After students know the definitions they should then focus on using these words in analogies and identifying relationships among WordMaster words.
