This week students met with their buddies to celebrate reading & the St. Paul's Book Fair!

• * The President "Lock-In" takes place during normal school hours.  The entire day will be devoted to activities related to The United States' Presidents.  This is the official kick-off for our Presidents' Unit.

Academics

Students took a test over nouns this week.  We will now be focusing our attention on friendly and business letters.  Students are also working hard to learn the WordMaster words.

Students have a test over classification of living organisms on Tuesday, November 13th.  We will then study cells, tissues, and organs.  Second quarter current events are underway. 

In social studies, students learned about the first French and English settlements in North America.  We also reviewed the types of questions they will have on their next test.  Students received their study guide for the unit. We will spend next week reviewing the unit and the test will be Monday, November 19.

Mrs. Jones's class has finished reading Small Steps and the students will now focus on the survival genre.  Students will have a choice between reading The Cay or Island of the Blue Dolphins.  Mrs. Nash's class is finishing up Shiloh and will take the test over the novel on Monday.  They will also enjoy the movie version of the novel next week.  Students received their second quarter book report assignments this week.  All students have had their books approved and should be busy creating a title page and reading their book.  We recommend that students finish reading their book by Friday, December 7 so that they will have one full week to write their report which is due Friday, December 14.

Fifth grade students participated in a mock election on Tuesday, November 6.  In order to supplement the activities we've done to inform students about the electoral college, students voted based upon the state they live in.  In our mock election, both Missouri and Kansas's electoral votes went to Mitt Romney.
