End of Year Party at Southmoreland Park For our end of the year celebration
The third, fourth and fifth grades will be walking to Southmoreland Park on Thursday, May 24.
Southmoreland Park is within 15 minutes walking from St. Paul’s School, between Warwick and Oak Street, and adjacent to the Nelson-Atkins Museum .
We will leave the school at 11:30 and return to school by 2 PM.
At the park we will enjoy each others’ company as we have lunch and play games. If you wish for your child to have a sack lunch from the cafeteria, rather than bringing one from home, please order the lunch on the page titled "Lunch Order Form for Southmoreland Park". Your order must be received by Friday, May 11, in an effort to give the Kitchen staff time to adequately prepare.
What fun we had at Market Day on Friday! Thanks to all the parents who joined us to celebrate the fifth graders' research and hard work.
As we get closer to the end of the school year, we're continuing to make sure we make the very most of the time we have left. Below are some of the focuses for the upcoming week.
Students took the third and final WordMaster test on Friday. They also received Wordly Wise 19 which will be due Thursday, May 10th. We have completed our study of adjectives and will spend the next few weeks doing a final writing project as well as covering more grammar including adverbs.
Both classes have begun a book contract project. Students will be bringing home a packet that summarizes this unit. Mrs. Jones's class is reading Island of the Blue Dolphins and students in Mrs. Nash's class are reading My Brother Sam is Dead or Daphne's Book. For this unit, students will write a daily journal that will include a short summary of what they read and might include predictions or questions they have. Students will also be completing other assignments that will help them focus on the story elements and their comprehension as they read.
Students will take a test in Science over resources and energy on Monday, May 7th. We will then begin our last unit of study which focuses on properties of matter including the elements, atoms, molecules, compounds, phase changes, and mixtures and solution.
In Social Studies students shared their unit 5 projects and are now beginning their study of The Civil War.
