As we start off the second week of third quarter, students are working on their final drafts of their research papers. Later this week, they will begin decorating a tri-fold board that will highlight their President and his accomplishments. In addition to the President unit, lots of other learning is taking place. Below are some of the highlights from last week and things to expect from this week.
- On Friday, January 27th students took a test over colonial America in Social Studies. Students will be bringing home their test to share with you on Monday, January 30th or Tuesday, January 31st. They will begin their studies on the American Revolution later this week.
- Mrs. Nash's class is half way through their class novel Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio while Mrs. Jones's class is approximately half way through their class novel Jayhawker.
- In Language Arts, both classes on working on their final drafts of their President reports. We've also begun studying for the next WordMaster test which is Wednesday, February 22nd. While we prepare for WordMasters students will not have Wordly Wise.
- Students have been learning about the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, and urinary systems in Science. They will end this unit at the end of this week or beginning of next week with a summative assignment instead of a test. They've been very enthusiastic about learning about the human body, and I'm confident that they are comfortable with the material.
Last week students attended the Bully Prevention presentation by Trish Madsen. Students had a follow-up writing assignment in class in order to help us assess where the class stands with regards to bullying and to reinforce that they have the power to help stop any bullying that is occurring by telling a teacher and/or by practicing the strategies that Mrs. Madsen taught them.
Students are busy rehearsing for the Fifth Grade Showcase. We look forward to seeing you for the 7 P.M. performance next Thursday, February 9th in the North Multipurpose Room.
