It's hard to believe that second quarter is already over! Students worked extra hard this week on their final assignments and tests for this grading period. Below are some of the highlights of the week.
- Students took notes on their President. All note cards are due Tuesday, January 17th. The minimum number is fifteen but we have encouraged the students to have around twenty-five. Students should feel like they have an adequate amount of information about their President and each stage of his life.
- Students took a test over chapter 2 in science. We are now taking a closer look at the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, and urinary systems. Third quarter current events will be underway soon.
- Students in Mrs. Jones's class are now reading Jayhawker by Patricia Beatty. Mrs. Nash's class is reading Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio by Peg Kehret. There will be no third quarter book report due to the research paper.
- In social studies, students have been studying the thirteen colonies. This week students completed their brochures on the colonies and used the brochures to answer questions about the colonies.
- As we prepare for middle school, students will begin receiving "Bummer Slips" in third and fourth quarter. We simply want to use this as a form of communication, so there are no consequences associated with Bummer Slips. We hope this will encourage our fifth graders to continue to be responsible and accountable for their work.
