October 24-26

Though it was only a three day week for students, they've worked hard and accomplished lots!  The commons is full of Science Expo projects, book reports, and decorated pumpkins.  Below are the highlights for this week and things to remember for the upcoming week.  Also, it was wonderful to see you at conferences and to have the opportunity to sit down and discuss your child's progress this year. We truly value your input and support in providing a quality education for your child. 

• We began WordMasters which is a nation wide analogy competition.  We'll spend the next three weeks studying the words and the relationships among them, and then students will take a test over the words on Friday, November 18th.  Since the test isn't for a grade, this is a fun, non-threatening way to challenge the students.
• In social studies, students have been learning about trade and its effect on travel and the increased interaction between people from different parts of the world.
• Students finished their Science Expo projects which will be on display until Wednesday, November 2nd.  They've worked extremely hard to write their lab reports, conduct their experiment, and create a display.  The displays look wonderful!  Students will finish this unit by doing a self-evaluation and providing feedback about the project. 
• Students also learned about singular and plural possessive nouns this week.

Things to Remember for the Upcoming Week

• The Pumpkin Parade continues!  Students are welcome to bring in decorated or carved pumpkins on Monday, October 31st.  All pumpkins will go home that afternoon so they can be displayed for trick- or- treaters.
• Students can wear their costume to school on Monday or they may change into it before the class party.  All costumes should be school appropriate and should not be gruesome.  We ask that students avoid blood, weapons, etc.
• The fifth grade parties will be from 2:30-3:15.  We thank the room parents for all of their hard work planning the parties.
• On Friday, November 4th students will read with their buddies to celebrate the kick off of the St. Paul's Book Fair.  Just a reminder that the book fair will open on Sunday, November 6th.
