Academics
In Language Arts, we spent the first part of the week practicing and preparing for our Presidents’ Celebration.  We also spent time in language arts practicing analogies and preparing for our next WordMasters Challenge, which is next Friday, February 19th. Students should be studying in preparation for this challenge. We will resume Wordly Wise after the challenge, and Wordly Wise Lesson 12 will be due Thursday, February 25th. Finally, we began our next grammar unit over verbs.

In Reading this week, both classes continued their literature circle discussions. Students have been rotating jobs each day. Each group will finish their books towards the end of the next week before beginning a group project.

In Social Studies, we spent time focusing on the Declaration of Independence. Students took pieces of the Declaration and analyzed the meaning and importance of it before sharing it with the class. Next week, we will focus on the differences between the Continental and British armies before learning about some of the later battles in the war. Our test over this unit will be Friday, February 26th.

In Science this week, we finished off our unit on the human body with a short experiment to learn about the digestive system.  We also reviewed for our test next week.  The test will be on Wednesday, and there is a link to the Quizlet under the "helpful links" section of this page.  Students have a study guide for the test as well.
