We will be going to the Ironwoods Challenge Course in Leawood, Kansas. We are very excited about this new opportunity! More information about this field trip will be provided soon.
Academics
In language arts and reading, we have spent time completing many back to school activities. We organized supplies, went over classroom procedures, and participated in some team building. Both homerooms had fun with the Spaghetti and Marshmallow Tower Challenge in which they worked in a team to build the tallest tower possible in 30 minutes. We also worked within our homerooms to develop classroom rules that we can all agree to follow. Next week in language arts, we will begin our first Wordly Wise lesson together and also begin reviewing the six traits of writing as we prepare to begin our first writing project of the year. In reading, we will complete some in-class projects related to our summer reading book.
In social studies, we began with an activity to get to know one another called Four Corners Three Truths and a Fib. We also started focusing on what we will learn this year by working in groups to brainstorm what American history really means. We will finish this activity next week before beginning our first unit of study about the land and early people of the United States.
In science, we jumped right into our first unit, which is learning about the scientific process. We learned that there are two types of observations, quantitative and qualitative, and applied that knowledge to a couple different scientific investigations. Next week, we will continue working on scientific process skills.
