Academics
In language arts, we continued our unit on nouns. We reviewed common and proper nouns as well as capitalization rules, and we began focusing on possessive nouns. Next week we will focus more on singular and possessive nouns. The nouns test dates are noted above. Students have received a study guide to prepare for this test. They can also use pages 150-152 and 156-165 of their language arts textbook as well as the LiveBinder link on the right side of this blog to study. The access code for the LiveBinder is grammar.
We are also continued our word masters preparations. Students began teaching their classmates about the word on which they have become an expert. Students should be studying these words on a daily basis.

In reading, both classes continued reading and working on
identifying the elements on a story map and picking out the important events to work on the skill of summarizing. In Miss Laird's class the student's are on Chapter 17 for The Cay and chapter 16 Hatchet.  In Mrs. Nash's class students have read through Chapter 21 in Running Out of Time and Chapter 17 in Hatchet. Both classes will take comprehension tests over their novels this Thursday, November 14th as noted above.

This week in social studies, we learned about how the Spanish conquered and settled parts of the Americas. Next week we will focus on the search for the Northwest Passage and the first French settlements in North America. The test over this unit will be Friday, November 22nd.

This week in science students worked in small groups to become experts on one stage of the life cycle of a star. Next week we will put the life cycle together and the students will have an opportunity to share their finds with the class. For science expo, the students should be finishing up their experiments at home this weekend. On Monday the students will have a work day to complete their lab report. The lab report is due on November 15th. They will be given another work day on Monday, November 18th to finish their display board, which is due on Tuesday, November 19th. The display boards will be available for parents to look at starting Wednesday, November 20th before and after school until Thanksgiving break.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Day School’s Annual Food Drive

to support the Church food pantry

 November 13-November 22

  • Each day, Student Council representatives will receive donations in the front hallway of the school.  Each student’s class will earn points for their offerings.
  • The class that collects the most will win a prize.
  • In addition to non-perishable food, students are encouraged to bring personal hygiene items.
  • While all items will be received each day, BONUS POINTS will be given for selected items on selected days.
  • Although in the past some classes in an effort to boost points have brought in large quantities of bulk snack items, we strongly encourage students to consider good nutritional choices in their donations. Let’s keep the competition friendly and fun, and remember the community that we are serving with our gifts.
