Note about the Social Studies Enrichment Project
Students still have an opportunity to participate in the social studies enrichment activity! Because so many of our fifth graders are involved in St. Paul's sports, Friday, May 10th was not the best time to get together to share projects. After offering both Friday afternoon and a morning session, all students participating decided they would like to share their projects on Monday morning before school. Students have a chance to research a topic relating to the Civil War and share their findings with some of their classmates on Monday, May 13th any time after 7:15. Students may choose any topic relating to the Civil War and can choose how they would like to present their findings. Breakfast will be provided during this activity.
Academics
In language arts, we are wrapping up out unit over pronouns, adverbs, and prepositions. Students will take a test over this unit on Tuesday, May 14th. There is a link to a LiveBinder we have created to help students review grammar on the right side of the blog. This is the same resource we used for our Verbs unit, and a tab has been added for this unit. Students also completed Wordly Wise #18. They received Wordly Wise #19 on Friday, and the packet will be due Thursday, May 16th. The test over Wordly Wise #19 will be Friday, May 17th.
Both reading classes have finished their book contract novels and are now working on putting together their activities for their LiveBinders. We will wrap up our book contract work next week. All work related to the Book Contract will be due Thursday, May 16th.
In science, students are currently learning about space. Students spent time reviewing for their test over stars and galaxies, which will be Monday, May 13th.

In social studies, students shared their Unit 5 projects. The creativity used in putting these projects together is quite impressive, and everyone has enjoyed sharing these projects. Next week, we will begin a very brief unit on the Civil War.

Through this course we will explore several unexplained events that helped shape American History. We will investigate these questions by examining primary-source materials and analyzing known facts surrounding the various events that have shaped America!
