It's been another busy week in fifth grade. Below are some of the highlights from this week.
- Students have been learning about the five classes of vertebrates in science: mammals, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and birds. We completed an activity using a dichotomous key to identify unknown organisms.
- In social studies, we continued our study of the exploration of the Americas. With each lesson, we have practiced different forms of note taking. On Friday, we started a new project: "What happened to the Lost Colony?" Students will investigate what may have happened and present their ideas through a magazine article or a news story.
- Students have been busy learning all twenty five WordMaster words. The WordMaster test will be Friday, November 18th. Quizlet is a great resource for students to use that will help them remember the meanings of each word.
- In language arts, we are wrapping up our unit on nouns. The test over this unit will be on Monday, November 21st. For extra review, students can use pages 150-153 and pages 156-165 in their Language Arts textbook. Note: If a student is going to be out of town that day, they should plan to take the test before they leave.
- Both fifth grade have their second quarter book report assignment which is due Monday, December 12th. This book report consists of a title page, summary page, and an additional piece that will allow students to showcase their musical, artistic, or public speaking skills.
- Mrs. Nash’s reading class continued reading Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor or Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O’Brien.
- Mrs. Jones's class is continuing to read When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit or Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio. They are halfway through each book.
